Presentation letter

Good morning, My name is Rafael Villalobos Mori, and I am a surgeon at the Arnau de Vilanova University Hospital. For some time now, I have been considering creating a website or blog dedicated to abdominal wall surgery. Firstly, because it is a field I have always been passionate about, and secondly because, after many years, despite countless studies on this type of surgery, there are still “blind spots” that we have not been able to fully address. Abdominal wall surgery—underappreciated by some, irrelevant to others, and fascinating to only a few—continues to give us much to discuss. Despite technological advances in suture materials and meshes for abdominal wall reinforcement, we still have not achieved the outcomes we would expect. It is true that with the advent of meshes, hernia recurrence rates decreased significantly, but this improvement has not been as evident in eventrations, also known as incisional hernias. Why? If we knew the answer, we would no longer have anything to discuss, and this blog would lose its purpose. However, this blog is not intended solely for information sharing and discussion. It also aims to allow interested colleagues to contribute their own experiences through documents, photos, videos, and more, creating a community that can, through this platform, share answers to clinical questions, present new surgical techniques, comment on published articles, and exchange knowledge efficiently. I look forward to staying in touch, and I hope this project attracts many followers. See you soon.
